about

"Sounds like...doom jazz."

- Some guy in San Francisco.

Doom jazz, a collection of cautionary tales of dire portent, is perhaps my favorite record by this band.I was on a six week odyssey across the Western half of the U.S., culminating with this recording session in Los Angeles with my Invo brothers. I had thought that Invo was done, having gone our separate ways for nearly a decade, so our return to the studio was glorious!

Best,
Steve Peplin

The program starts with a four movement requiem of sorts.
1 "Magnus" is dedicated to the spirit of Shawn Scott Sanders, who was part of the original band, "Invocation." He passed on Imbolc of 2009. Magnus was one of his many nicknames.
2 "Mayatuk" is dedicated to the spirit of Jimmy's Beloved husky of the same, who departed shortly after Shawn.
3 "Lethe", the river of forgetfullness. Here, the task is to try to recall an idea, only to forget it more each time it is recalled.
4 "Escape from Hell", there is a way out, but it may only be found once.
5 "Area 52" isn't about aliens.
6 "Pandora's Box" isn't about Pandora's Box.
7 "Dragonslayer". Exhausted and nearly spent, we decided to create one more piece, whereby Brian mutters 'Fuck it, Dragonslayer.'
This is the most cliched and iconic doomed quest a hero can take, the perfect story for yours truly. What chance can one armored knight have against a primordial being that is one with the elements, possesses a demigod-like genius and has been slaying upstart treasure hunters for hundreds of years?
We took it there all the way, but who wins, the Knight or the Dragon?
