about

Inferno

Invocation Trio explores Dante's Inferno. The classic Boticelli map of Hell serves as the musical score. Invocation Trio doesn't follow the story of Dante's descent, but blazes their own path through the nine hells, a new telling of an age old classic.

The mother of all cautionary tales retold, Inferno is darkly beautiful and devastating. Invocation Trio evokes gales of ambient winds, images of huge monuments of rusted metal and sonic vistas of blasted landscapes. Rivers of distorted bass flow into oceans of noise, polyrhythmic pockets of doom counter harmonic clouds of sudden benevolence, all powered by Jimmy Kuehn's punishing and virtuosic drumming, Brian Hawlk's forlorn melodic genius and Steve Peplin's unconventional scordatura guitar playing.

Each of the six movements is accompanied by modified Gustave Dore panels and a verbal guide for the abyssal wayfarer.
