The Dark Forest, The Gate, Avernus, Acheron

about

Inferno: Canto I
Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.
-Dante

Through tangled branches, briars and thistles, past feral glowing eyes of unknown predators, we move towards the gate, a sudden dive in the path, between two rows of tangled hemlock.
The gate opens quite suddenly. We cross the threshold and are transported through a mercurial wormhole. We are unprepared for the bleak vastness of Avernus.
We make our way across the ancient prison of infinite punishment, delirious from the overwhelming sense of foreboding, towards the black sludge of the river Acheron where Charon waits to extract his toll.
